HISTORIC POINT BASSE CITIZEN’S MEETING

MINUTES – December 5, 2023

The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m.  Those in attendance were Jackie, Paula, Mike, Tina, Skip, Dawn, Larry, Don, John, Greg & Linda Weege and Joni.

HERITAGE HOLLYDAY –

120 + people were in attendance.  $265 was made at the event.  It was a success!  Nick gave out maps and schedules.  The bonfire was a success but not many people went on the trail.  Don had a drum that he demonstrated.  The ticket book was good.  The snowshoe guy did not show up.

A discussion was had regarding apple cider and how it spoiled and what we should do or not do.

FURNACE –

Don said it needs more lines to help it function more efficiently.  Some discussion took place on how to do this.

TOWN HALL –

The building is all boarded up and the windows are out.  Tina talked to Lorilei.  The Town of Saratoga will vote on a donation amount in Jan. or Feb.  Peterson Movers gave us a cost to move the building, but the roof has to come off to move it.  There was some discussion about this. Things are still in the works.  Tina is still working on a grant for this project.

Dave Weege talked about preventative maintenance vs. reactionary maintenance at the site.  Larry stated we have to look at short-term repairs that fit into the long-term plan.  Don said there is a lot of interest in the Town Hall.  Here is the 5-year plan:

  1.  Move/Stabilize
  2.  Doors, Windows, Roof
  3.  Heating, etc., Start interior.
  4. Getting it “period correct”
  5. Tables, chairs, display cases, etc.

The house has a 2-year plan.  The basement needs to be redone.  A wall is bowing in.

There is a presentation at the Marshfield library on April 12.  Mike and Tom Brehmer will go and do the presentation.

Larry and Paula have pressure cookers to cook the beavers for the Winter Feast.  Had a discussion regarding getting salmon also.  Paula will ask the DNR guy in Green Bay.

NEKOOSA HOMETOWN CHRISTMAS –

We will meet on Friday night, December 15 around 4:45 – 5:00 and go to the park to hand out fliers as people drive through.  We will also go there on Monday, Dec. 10 and be in the park from 5 – 7:00 both days.

T-SHIRTS –

Tina talked to Creative Design regarding making T-shirts for us.  Their prices are:

            T-shirts – $9

            Design – $9

            2X and larger – +$3

We have a “saying” for one of the designs but need “sayings” for the other 2 designs.

We could wear the shirts as workers but also sell them at Pioneer Fest, etc.

September 7 will be next year’s Harvest Fair.

Paula had questions regarding things from last month’s minutes.

Need to schedule the Annual Meeting for 2024.  Paula, Jackie and Bonnie are up for election.  This will be scheduled at the next Board Meeting.

We need to put up the building numbers for Emergency Services.

Tina made a motion to adjourn – seconded by Joe – Motion. Carried.

Meeting adjourned at 7:18.

Respectfully Submitted, Joni Wolf, Secretary
