Meeting was called to order.  Those attending were Johann, Don, Skip, Brooke, Dawn, Larry, Dave Schmidt, Tom B, Larry, Greg & Linda Weeg, Tina and Joni.

CAMPFIRE COOKING CLASS –

A sheet was passed out detailing the plans for this event.  Tom B explained who was going to do what.  14 have already registered.  Some general planning took place.  9:00 set-up on Friday and be there at 8 on Saturday.  There was some discussion at this point.  Forecast is 60 degrees and partly cloudy.

SCHOOL GROUPS –

Linda Weeg had pages for kids to color and make paper dolls and word searches.  There was some discussion as samples were passed around.  Don mentioned someone had talked about a pocket puzzle as an option for kids’ activities.

Skip asked about a schedule for the School Groups.  Paula has this but is not able to be at the meeting.  Greg said a spreadsheet would help with this and he would be greatly appreciative of something he could see and use to plan ahead.  There was discussion.

MINUTES ON WEBSITE –

Greg suggested having Action Items at the end of the minutes detailing what needs to be followed up on and who is going to do so.  These items will be followed up on by the meeting leaders, Larry and Tina.  Joni will send the list to Larry and Tina.

SELLING JAMS AND JELLIES –

Ann Rozner had inquired about making jams and jellies and selling them at events.  There was some discussion, and it was decided that this was okay with the group.  They can be sold at the Pavilion along with the food and t-shirts.

PIONEER FEST ADVERTISING –

Larry stated that in a publication he saw at Pick and Save, the only event for Historic Point Basse is Pioneer Fest.  Might be worthwhile to look into expanding this a bit.  Joni will check on this.

INSURANCE –

We have received an insurance quote from Church Mutual through Matt Ahlswede.  He met withTina and Joni earlier today.  He personally inspected the site and researched Replacement Cost Values, etc. and feels we are not adequately insured.  The quote offered higher insurance values on the buildings, higher deductibles ($2,500 instead of $1,000 which we presently carry), but also made sure the historic buildings were insured in a way that repairs could be done in compliance with the Historical Register people.  The quote also included $1 million liability coverage for the Board of Directors.  It also included liability coverage for sexual misconduct and open shooter and for volunteers and Image Restoration in the event of an accusation against HPB – whether valid or not.    In addition, the quote provided coverage for Hired and Non-Owned auto to provide coverage when we are using our vehicles to do things for Historic Point Basse.  Tina passed out copies of part of the quote detailing these additional coverages.

The insurance industry has changed dramatically in the last few years.  During Covid, companies were not taking rate increases and were not watching the market or the future adequately.  At present, rates on everything are increasing dramatically.  Some companies are no longer offering the coverage that they did before.  Tina’s Auto and Homeowner’s carrier will not write auto and home insurance any longer.  She had to find a different provider.  We can almost be guaranteed that our rates and deductibles with Auto Owners will increase at the September renewal.  It might be a good idea to look at getting the extra coverage now before our busy time of the year.

Mary Surhke from Surhke Insurance is at present preparing a Liability Quote for the Board through USLI.  We will compare what our present policy is and this quote once received.

There is an increase in cost to go with the Church Mutual policy.  They also insure the Adams County Historical group and the Portage County Historical Society.

Larry made a motion to forward this item to the Board.  Mike seconded.  Motion carried.

Meeting adjourned at 7:30.

Respectfully submitted.

Joni Wolf, Secretary
