The meeting was called to order.  Those present were Larry, Mike, Johann, Don, Ann, Paula, Linda, Brian, Tina, Skip and Joni.

HARVEST FAIR –

The event brought in $548.  Attendance was over 100.  We should consider selling things next year as there was a demand for it this year.  Mike suggested we “sell by donation”.  Joni suggested having the pie and bakery girls to come and sell at this event.  Larry suggested putting them by the house and asking that they dress in costume.

HISTORIC ENCAMPMENT –

Larry mentioned that someone drove onto the site during the School Day activities.  Cars coming in for the Encampment will have to wait until the students are gone. Joe said it was well attended and there were about 10 or so reenactors present.  He will address the car situation with his group.

SPIRIT WALK –

Mike said things are pretty well set.  Tickets will be manned by Bonnie and Anne.

Mike listed the spirits and who they will be as well as where they will be.  We have about 6 guides. Ann suggested having eerie music playing.  I could be set up in the area cleared for the Civil War people.  We may do this next year.

HERITAGE HOLLY DAYS –

Joni will be heading this and will be doing the decorations for the site.  Linda will do a scavenger hunt.  Maybe have a game tent – but would need someone to do this.  Tina said if there is snow, we could play Fox and Gesse in the snow.  Ann could sell special jelly in the house.  Larry talked about a snow game called Fox and Hens – like what Tina talked about, but everyone caught ends up being a Fox.  We need things for kids.

Nekoosa Hometown Christmas will have an event down at Riverside Park on Dec. 18 called Heritage Christmas.  We will be there in costume.  We talked about helping put up the lights.  Paula suggested having a special display for Historic Point Basse.  There was some discussion.

Larry mentioned that singing up for classes needs to be coordinated better.  It works on the Square.  When people pay for a class, Brian will get an email.  We can mark if a class is full.  There is a maximum of 15 per class.  Checks can be sent to our P O Box after September 2 for Harvest Fair.  Next year’s foraging Class should read the same as this year.  Tom Brehmer lets people pay when they come to the Campfire Cooking Class.

2026 CALENDAR –

Paula requested to take off the Snowshoeing Event if there is no snow.  We will say Snowshoeing Trails Available.

The events calendar needs to be completed.  A Civil War event in 2026 was discussed.  Joni will call Robert Schwandt about this.

Don will make more 2025 schedules for Paula.

GARDEN –

Luke Konkol – who was been our writer for the Who Dun It for many years now – has moved back to the area.  They have volunteered to take over and take care of the garden.  Larry said we sometimes get food out of there for Winter Feast but that is getting to be less and less.  Ann asked about garden tools on site.  They could be kept in the chicken coop.  Luke will be responsible for his own things.  Paula wants to harvest the buckwheat right now.  There was some discussion about all of this.

Skip brought up a man with a second corn sheller to help get kids through faster during School Days.

There is a Homeschool group with about 20 6 – 8th graders and 14 high school students that want to volunteer.  They could help with the Tomahawks, sawing wood and boards and the Blacksmith shop.  These are the activities that were chosen.

There is a game called Cat & Mouse or Un-Doo-Wah or 1,2,3. It is all the same game.

There was a discussion on group activities

We need new handles on the Tomahawks or new Tomahawks altogether.  Skip has a target that he could bring.

Mary Rebin, a teacher, commented on the blacksmith.  It was a compliment given during School Groups.  Skip has the details.

There needs to be an area set up for the Scouts for orientation.

3 possible ideas for Eagle Scout Projects:

  1.  Cleaning along the creek bank.
  2.  Expansion and improvement of Corral area on barn – expanding it towards the road.
  3. Fencing along Wakely Road – Replace and use red pine for posts, and a bit higher for a maker.  Extend the rail fence in the former prairie area
  4. Chinking the barn and possibly the warehouse.
  5. Walking trails – possible service project.  Skip can cut signs – could be used on trails.

Skip will bring more ideas back to the group.

On the Domtar land – there has been sightings of coyotes and badgers – there needs to be caution areas.

Money received last summer from Civil War Days needs a category for it.  It is seed money for next year’s event.

HISTORIC COMMITTEE –

Linda Weeg will be coming on and will take over Donations. Larry will be in charge of inventory and Paula will be heading archaeology, school, rocks, pottery, etc.  We need to decide the size of the Archive Room in the basement of the Town Hall.

We need a new dehumidifier for both the school and the Town Hall.

Need to think of a design of a floor plan for the town Hall.  Brooke had previously volunteered to do this.

The house is coming along nicely.  Stone will hopefully be done by Spirit Walk.  The Lock was moved to the inside of the door.  Woodpeckers are still attacking the shutters.

Don mentioned a 4 x 4 or 3 x 3 window with one way glass for in the Town Hall.

Dawn found stencils at Walmart.com that we can buy in bulk for School Groups.

Mike made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Ann.  Meeting adjourned at 7:40 pm.

Respectfully Submitted,

Joni Wolf, Secretary
