The meeting was called to order. Those attending were – Paula, Tom W., Skip, John, Don, Tina, Mike, Ann, Dawn, Larry, Francine and Joni.
HARVEST FEST –
Paula said everything is coming together quite well. Gate people are all set up. Brooke, Dawn and Joni are in the house. Johann is in the barn. Don is in the 3-bay shed with the apples. John Berg is in the Blacksmith shop, Larry in the Bunkhouse, Mike is making the cabbage, Brooke is making soap, Victoria is doing her wool demonstration and Tina is taking pictures.
The dedication for the newly completed Pavilion will be at 1:00.
Ann’s foraging class has 17 people signed up.
Need flies set up for the games, Victoria, Brooke, etc.
Don asked if putting the ticket booth out in the road so that there is only 1 lane. There was some discussion and yes, this is a good idea.
Those helping need to be there by 9:30 at least. Make said that the donation boxes should be set out. Also, passports and first aid kids along with Emergency Procedures need to be out.
SPIRIT WALK –
Mike has most of the “spirits” set up. He has contacted several people but has not heard back from them all.
Tom W. will be a guide; Tina will be a tail guide. Anne and Bonnie will do the tickets again this year. There are school groups at the site before the event on each day. Joe will talk around the fire.
HOMETOWN CHRISTMAS – Old Time Christmas will be on December 20 (Friday) from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. They would like to have 4 – 6 of our people there. We will not have a float in the parade. Steph will “Share Facebook” with us for the event. The planning group meets at 5:30 – 6:00 and we will be present on September 11.
Don and Mike are going to a conference with the Menominee Tribe. The goal is to learn something.
The Wisconsin Historical Society could maybe host a “meeting” for our area in the future.
TOWN HALL–
The floor joists are being created. Steve Parker is coming on Friday. The basement will be closed. Not sure if moving the building will be this year or next year.
Steve Parker will put the roof back on after the move. We will know more on Friday. The outhouse should not be moved.
LOGGING – Don came across the cost of us getting our own sawmill. It’s a bandsaw unit with an expandable track. For $3,700, we could get our own and saw whatever we wanted. Mike said that with this, we would not need a lot of additional help. This is the cheapest one. This purchase would have to go through the board.
The Domtar guy hasn’t called Don back yet. They aren’t going to log in the winter. There was some discussion.
TOWN OF ROME FARMERS MARKET –
We received $30.00 from them. Sales were slow. We need another weekend in September.
2025 CIVIL WAR EVENT –
Joni and Tom attended the re-enactment in Kaukauna and made many connections and invited different groups to our event in 2025. They will go to the Manitowoc event also at the end of September.
Carr Koprop is a teacher with the Weiss Group Charter School. She called regarding attending the Spirit Walk, the Foraging Class and Sugar Bush. If they come as a group to Spirit Walk, Anne and Bonnie will keep track of the number of people and they will be invoiced accordingly.
Mike made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Paula. Meeting adjourned at 7:37.
Respectfully submitted,
Joni Wolf, Secretary
